High-performance computing

High-performance computing is a computing paradigm that facilitates parallel computation across hundreds of computers. It is particularly effective for embarrassingly parallelizable computations, i.e. computations with many subparts that can be run independently of one another. Many institutions (academic and otherwise) have some sort of high-performance computing environment available for its members to use.
